Age

Our club will focus on player’s ages 11-18. We hope to have teams in the following age groups – 12’s, 13’s, 14’s, 15’s, 16’s, 17’s, and 18’s. The final age groups, team levels, number of teams will depend on the number and skill level of players participating in tryouts. The number of girls that tryout could influence if some ages are combined into one team. Example there could possibly be a combined team made up of 12U and 13U players that would compete in a 13U division. Players are allowed to play in age groups above their age, but not below. Your age group can be determined by your age on September 1, 2019.

Find Your Age Group

EDVC has a goal to field a minimum of 1 team in each age group. We will have as many teams in each age group as long as we feel it is a viable team. The more popular ages like 16’s could possibly field 2 teams. EDVC will also strive to offer developmental teams that will compete in a few local tournaments.

We encourage you to get to know our coaches by visiting their team page on our website which includes bios, photos and previous results. We offer training to all of our coaches. The most important aspect of our staff is that all of our EDVC coaches make a commitment to serve the mission of our organization.

Club volleyball is an opportunity for volleyball players of varying abilities to continue their development past the fall school season. USA Volleyball (USAV) is the national governing body and is responsible for local, regional, national and international rules and competition. USAV is divided into 40 regions. We fall under the Carolina Region Volleyball Association which includes 2 regions – East and West. Each year, players and teams must become members of USA Volleyball in order to participate in practice and tournament play. Club volleyball or Junior Olympic volleyball consists of regionally organized and governed training programs for boys and girls interested in obtaining advanced level training and competition in the sport of volleyball. Players participate after or before their school volleyball season and compete against other club programs. Club volleyball also works to promote the sport of volleyball and to teach the skills needed for a lifetime of play. Club volleyball is much like select soccer and softball. There are open tryouts for team selections after which teams will practice 2-3 times a week and play a tournament every few weekends for 4 – 6 months.

EDVC is dedicated to the cultivation of developmental skills in young players and providing opportunities for girls to succeed – as individuals as well as elite volleyball players – while emphasizing teamwork through encouragement and respect.

Players attend an open tryout to consisting of physical testing, skill testing and game situations. Each age division tryout will be different based on needs and number of athletes trying out. Coaches will evaluate during tryouts. Naturally, the better your skills are, the higher probability of your selection. Please know that skill is not the only factor considered by a particular coach. Each team needs to be balanced in all positions, so the POSITION that you play, or look able to play, may be a factor. If you are the third best player at tryouts, and also the third best setter, you may not be selected unless the coach feels that he/she can easily train you into another position. Some coaches may factor in general athleticism and movement on the court. For others, attitude and team focus as well as a clear enthusiasm for volleyball are an important part of the equation. In all cases, the coaches will consider you not just on your own but as part of the team they are creating as they go through the selection process. Tryouts are a learning experience. Attend several tryouts or clinics to increase your comfort with the process. At any tryout, we like when players are loud, have a positive energy and show great hustle during. We look for a positive attitude and passion for the sport.

Yes! Each girl has an equal opportunity to make a team. Bottom line…if your daughter deserves to make a team, she will.

No. Offers will be emailed after tryouts. Generally offers are emailed within 24 hours. As much as our selection process is about the individual player, it is about the team as a whole and we need as much time as we can to evaluate players.

An “Offer” is the term for when a EDVC coach invites a tryout player to be a part of one of the EDVC teams. When an athlete receives an Offer from one of our EDVC staff it is because they feel she would be a great addition to our club and that select team. Our hope is that you let us know as soon as possible if you are accepting. This allows our coaching staff to make necessary decisions going forward. Player can accept the offer immediately via email or she can wait until the first commitment day listed on the offer. Clubs must hold an offer open to a player to join a particular team in the club or the club in general until the respective age group signing date. Players may voluntarily commit to a club at any time following the club’s tryouts. For tryouts held just before or after the signing date, clubs should give a minimum waiting period of five days before requiring a player to commit to their club. After the waiting period expires the club can recent the offer and offer the spot to another player.

Playing time is NOT guaranteed for anyone. Playing time is earned during practices and is left to the discretion of the coach. Club dues only cover practice times and not playing time. Of course, everyone wants to play as much as possible in competitive matches, but in terms of player development, time spent in practice is more valuable than match time.

The amount of players for each team will be set during the tryout process and will be determined based on the make up of each individual team. For example, if a team were to run a 5-1, a 9 player roster would be suitable for the makeup of that team. If a team is going to run a 6-2, the roster may have either 9 or 10 players. On average we like to keep the number close to 10, so we can reduce playing time issues.

Our travel teams practice between 4-6 hours per week. Our developmental teams practice 2-3 hours per week. In general, one of these practices will take place on weeknights and will usually not begin earlier than 5:30 p.m. and will not run later than 9:30 p.m. All practices will be held on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Every effort will be made to schedule practices for our younger age groups early in the evening. Sunday practices will not begin before 1:00 pm to accommodate family and/or church commitments.

Tryouts are held in late October / early November, and some teams will start practicing once a week before Thanksgiving. However, full team practices for most of the teams will begin the first week of December. The EDVC travel teams will go until lateMarch / early April. EDVC developmental teams will finish by mid March.
